Change for Equality: The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Women’s Rights and Gender Unit, has published a report examining the possibility of creating new mechanisms to address laws that discriminate against women. Divided into six parts, the report begins with a consideration of the concept of equality. The report assesses how reservations entered by States parties when ratifying human rights treaties have impacted upon the attainment of equality and specifically women’s ability to enjoy their rights. this report also considers regional human rights systems, and recommends that a Special Rapporteur on laws that discriminate against women be appointed.
